the melakans came down to singapore couple of days ago, the same boys that i met 3 years back when we met in japan for a student exchange trip. amazed how each an everyone of them has remained the same despite moving to different continents. kang liang is still cocky, witty, and all well-rounded, literally, as before. same goes to anthony, the chee baba who is great but yet humble in many ways. last but not least, calvin, who is studying in nus and staying in the same hall. its always good to have someone who you are closely related to (in a way) when you're stuck in a foreign place as such.did tons of catching up sessions over beer at a nearby kopitiam. the table next to us is a bunch of old indian uncles drinking stout. they were friendly enough to start up a random conversation with us. wonder if four of us would be like one of em' as we age. hoping that we'll be able to have more reunion sessions, sippin and talking about the good ol' times. reminiscing the past together makes me wanna visit melaka again. japan was a breathtaking experience too, but yet we're conformed by our own limited funds. haha.

calvin bubuk-kudasai tan, ashley chee toni baba, kang peter griffin liang
had seafood for dinner with kangliang's family yesterday night at toa payoh. largest crab i've ever eaten in my whole life. easily the uber huge claw itself is as long as our regular 6 incher subway. suffered multiple orgasms, felt awesome. really wanna give thanks for being able to meet such a warm bunch of people that makes you feel like one of em. kangkang is such a lucky person for having a wonderful family like this. kl and anthony is heading back to malaysia tomorrow, hoping to meet up in september before they take off to the queen's.

last week i discovered lotsa eatery places, both mouth-savouring and unique in its way. in any country, lies good but we just need a lil' effort in scouting em'. currently i'm building intimacy with www.insing.com. not only it gives you the location of those places, but also recommendation and review on what's good and what's not.
eighteen chefs @ simei east point mall, started by Benny who was an ex-convict. shall not spare the details of what he did back then as it is not important. this mentee of jamie oliver specialises in pastas that offers cheap meals for students and nurses. i brought my cellmates there after service without hesitant as 18 chef has not failed to suit my taste buds. my personal fav is the spicy garlic pasta with minced beef. would highly recommend this dish if you're looking for something rich in aroma and if spiciness is favourable to you. may want to try out the beer battered fish on my next trip, although the price may be tad edgy.
along the streets of lil' india there's millions and millions of restaurants! (maybe a lil' too much). ananda bhavan and komala vilas is one of my top choices (vincy would agree to me). being a fan of indian cuisine myself, nidhi, my new internship colleague, and i, didn't hesitate to help me make it a routine for us every week to spend half an hour of travelling time just to get our dosage of those indian spices.
over here, the effect of globalisation can be seen. particularly, i'm referring to franchised fast food. still don't get the picture? okay, let's just say that you walk in to your regular macdonald's and you find them serving indian food. yes, with all the waiters in dorky uniform, value meals which comes with a drink and fries. probably they should rename the place to MacKomalas or KomalaDonalds. i'd like the latter. hey, then you'll have krishmanathan komaladonalds as the mascot! this is how he might look like, should they pursue my brilliant idea.

who you looking at, bitch?

waiter: good afternoon, can i take your order?
tommy: yes, i would like one bhattura please
waiter: would you like a value meal with that? it comes with fries, and a soft drink of your choice. on top of that, it comes with a baja-hitam figurine!
tommy: WTH?
for a second, i was thinking whether am i at the right place. sorry, i digressed.
by the way, this bhattura is not your prata-next-door kind of meal. this ballooned bread is made of the normal naan dough. only difference you would find is in the texture, which is crispier than the usual chewy naan.

all in all, very unique experience compared to any of the restaurants i've eaten in. tell me, where on earth do you find jukeboxes in places like these anymore?

hey mr.DJ put that record on
